The Parent Resource Center
The Parent Resource Center of Jewish Family Service has the goal of being a resource for families raising a special needs child. The Parent Resource Center connects parents to programs and services they need and want. In addition, the Resource Center offers parent workshops and support groups. Individual and family counseling is available through the Riskin Children's Center.
The Parent Resource Center includes a Resource Library which has a collection of books and videos of interest to parents. Our library offers parents the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with other parents who share their unique experiences - parents who have become experts in their own children's needs. The Parent Resource Library is associated with SPAN-The Statewide Parent Advocacy Network -which can help parents navigate the special education maze.
Every Sunday evening Jewish Family Services and the "Y" host a special needs swim program. Boys swim is from 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm and girls swim is from 5:45 - 6:30. Once a month, The Parent Resource Center and the Epilepsy Foundation co-sponsor a hip-hop dance class and family swim. The dates for the family swim will be posted on the web site calendar. Volunteers are needed to help shadow children during the swim. For information and/or volunteer opportunities call Suzanne Miller at ext. 115.
An ongoing group for parents of children with ADHD has been facilitated by Rosie Golding, MSW. Please call or e-mail Mrs. Golding at ext. 625 for more information.
Please contact Suzanne Miller, Parent Resource Center Coordinator at 973 777 7638, Ext. 115 or for information and referrals and to visit the library and borrow materials.
